Windows 7 with "super" taskbar

One of the most obvious change you will see the first time to boot (the new Windows 7, known in the taskbar "superbar"). Most people like it, some do not, but I think overall a great improvement on the little strip of screen real estate that do not have a major renovation since Windows XP.

For some users, a hurdle that a new "superbar" size is large, or appears so. To set the record straight, I made a little side-by-side experiments with two quick-launch and two items on the application in both Vista and Windows 7. Together with the measurement tape on the one hand and glass in the other, I counted. Soon enough, I grew impatient and resorted to Photoshop instead. Here's how they measured up.

In conclusion, some interesting findings. Start Windows "pearl" buttons actually shrunk about 8 pixels. Quick launch items are more than twice the width and three times the width of the icons of Windows 7's small and large respectively. Application buttons have remained relatively unchanged from Vista (and do not change in width with a small icon), at the same time appear more elegant.

In short, if you want an experience as close to the Vista taskbar may be in terms of real-estate, and then activate the "small icons" you will get there. On the other hand, the standard "large icons" will not kill you either. In fact, if you do not have anything to pin taskbar, then you will only lose 2 per pixel while the application to get 8 pixels from the Start button. What will you do with all those extra pixels.
